On Sunday, I went out to stroll around the gardens (as I always do after church) and discovered that a new bearded iris has bloomed at the base of the olive tree. The depth of the purple enchants me like you wouldn't believe!I think this is from some rhizomes that a neighbor gave me when she was dividing hers. It's never bloomed before, so I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful colors.
Does anyone know the name of this variety so I can call it by its proper name?

ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful Iris and wonderful photo. Makes me think of my grandmother's garden. She had every color of the rainbow. I'm happy to say that I have a few from her garden by my front gate. You have inspired me to take some photos, since they are blooming, now.

ReplyDeleteThe large bearded iris are my father's favorite flower--and we had over 30 varieties in our yard when I was growing up. I don't know what this one is called, but we did have it, so I'll ask my dad if he knows the name. :)

ReplyDeleteI looked through the Cooley's catalog and found no iris with white risers and deep purple falls. it might be a new one someone else bred. I have one that crossed and is original too. The closest ones: they have a fringed purple falls (queens circle), mid purple falls (fountain of youth) or tending to blue falls (prince george). There is one with deep purple falls but the riser is not pure white. It is slightly lavender (duo dandy). If the white runs into the falls (clarence) or the purple runs into the risers, they also have names (world premier--slightly lavender rise, or carry me away). the picture was not that clear.
