You would never guess from the photo above of our little Dee Dee angel that she is almost solely responsible for our decision to not put up a Christmas tree each year.
We call her the "little orange terror", not because she rips around the house terrorizing everyone, but because she is methodical and relentless in the way she "terrorizes" us humans that share her domain. If a kitty could win an award for perseverance, she would get it. It doesn't matter how many times she's been told "no", removed from the scene of an offense, or even squirted with a spray water bottle. After a 30-60 second break, Dee Dee will just return to whatever repetitive naughtiness she was instigating prior to being reprimanded.
Needless to say, after repeatedly finding her midway up the Christmas tree in years past doing her best imitation of a "partridge in a pear tree" and subsequently bending the artificial tree limbs to the point of no return, we decided that it just wasn't worth the hassle.
So Rosehaven Cottage goes without a yearly Christmas tree in the true sense although we do have two mini Christmas trees that flank our fireplace mantle where Dee Dee cannot reach them.
Wrapped Christmas presents in years past also met their fate under the paws and teeth of Dee Dee who is obsessed with paper products of any kind. She loves the sound of crinkling paper and comes running whenever she hears the smooth "swoosh" sound of my paper-cutter when I'm doing some paper craft or the distant "crunch" of a paper pattern when I'm cutting out a sewing project. Therefore, wrapping paper and tissue paper aren't safe for long. In the past, most gift bows spent more time off the gifts than on. Sigh...
Fortunately, I am a photographer. So instead of decorating our home with decorations, brightly wrapped presents, and Christmas trees that would all be too much for Dee Dee to resist, I capture images of other people's beautiful decorations and displays and then look at those throughout the Christmas season. It gets me the Christmas spirit to go "window shopping" without the "Grinch-iness" of having to repeatedly scold an naughty OCD kitty cat.

Haha, it almost sounds like you could be talking about my cat, Rani! Rani does exactly the same thing and recently her focus has been on the budgie! She knows she's not supoosed to touch him or go near the cage but of course, after 30 seconds of coming away, she turns right back around and does it again. She is really naughty but is just so lovable you can't stay mad at her. This is only her second Christmas and she is also obsessed with paper. It was my sister's birthday the other day and Rani just happened to be there when I was wrapping the gifts, so I gave her a separate piece of wrapping paper to play with. It worked quite well...there was only a few holes in the presents this time;) Any animals with strong personalities like Dee Dee and Rani always capture my heart and you can never have a dull day when they are around! LOL

I LOVE the temple picture. That is gorgeous. I miss seeing the lights. They don't do anything like that at the Boise temple. That is a truly breathtaking photo.

ReplyDeleteCindy, You poor thing! Just kidding. There is nothing like fighting a losing battle. My daughter's cat, Boomer, has his favorite ornaments so she hangs them on the bottom of the tree. He takes them off and packs them around. His very favorite one is the one I made that says, Happy Birthday Jesus.

Hmmmm, you could be talking about our catchildren too, because some of those bad boojums are known for going tree-climbing...also undecorating, redecorating, playing ornament hockey, laying on presents, playing with bows....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful festive photos, too, Cindy. I hope to get some decorating done this weekend; between being sick and the weather being impossible, haven't felt like putting up lights outside OR going to get the tree from our local grower.
LOL, it must be the red colour, my Dolly Daisy is nicknamed the Red Danger in our home and she lives up to her name although she is good with leaving Christmas trees alone.
ReplyDeleteMost of my kitties are good like that except for Kadootje and her Mum Surprise, they steal the odd Christmas ornament from the tree and play football with it but fortunately so far nobody has thought of climbing up the Christmas tree.
BTW I know a fellow cat lover who now has a Christmas tree dangling upside down from the ceiling. It works a treat! ;-)
